IRS Scams: In this scam, the scammers pose as IRS employees or someone with equal authority. They call and manipulate the victims to wire money by citing some tax related issue or other and threatens him/her of dire consequence if money is not paid.
Debt Collection Scams: In this scam, the scammer calls the victim and informs him/her that certain debts or installments are long overdue. If he/she does not pay immediately, there will be consequences.
Lottery and Gift Scams: These scams are designed to exploit the human attraction and weakness for winning gifts and huge amount of money. Normally the scammer calls the victim with the promise of some gift or a large amount of money apparently won by said victim. The scammer then informs the victim that, to get access to the gift or money, he/she needs to wire an amount to the caller.
Employment Scams: These scams take advantage of the unemployed people by promising them part-time jobs as secret shoppers or promoters for businesses. Once the victim starts working he/she is asked to put stickers or something like that on their car for promotion. After a certain period, the victim receives a cheque but he/she is pushed and made to pay for the stickers and such. After making the payment, the victim discovers that the cheque is fake and it has bounced. He/she doesn’t get any money, but loses quite an amount.
Online purchase scams: As people are getting more and more interested buying things online, they are becoming victim of these scams. Under this, the scammers sell fake products and con people. Sometimes, a simple online shopping session can turn to a trap for identity or financial information theft as well.
